One vital factor in striking the ball is its position. First thing you must ensure is that there is no obstacle along the flight path or in the main path for the ball to smooth run to the position you would like it to reach. Before you strike the ball, be sure that your position is midway from the tee. If you are not comfortable with your posture, you can try to adjust the ball to make a greater height opposite your main foot. This move will increase the loft but can reduced the roll. The key to hitting off a tee is to bring your hands slightly forward right before participating.
This process will improve the level of control you have on the shot; thus increasing the loft on the ball. The ideal swing is the one which you deliver with hands at the shoulder, shown by a short hold and slightly over the vertical shaft. In order to continue your stance, make sure to follow through. Although it is true that higher clubhead speeds make the ball go farther, after a certain point extra effort only causes mis-hits. A solid strike accomplishes more than an uncontrolled flailing at the ball.
Although a fairway wood shot is not quite the same as a good short-iron shot, Tony Ruggiero points out that the two have a lot in common. However, you still hit down on the ball as you do when using an iron; thinking that way will help you avoid scooping the shot.
North Carolina native Mike Southern has been writing since He is the author of the instructional golf book "Ruthless Putting" and edited a collection of swashbuckling novels. Southern was trained in electronics at Forsyth Technical Community College and is also an occasional woodworker. A well struck fairway wood should always feel solid at the point of impact.
Place Ball Forward Although different teachers may appear to contradict each other—for example, Butch Harmon will say the ball should be played back and Travis Fulton will advise playing the ball forward—virtually all teachers describe this position the same way. The whole body working together has more strength than your arms do alone.
I bet that will improve my swing. I know that I have the tendency to only use my arms, so this will be an adjustment.
